Dorin RADU is Associate Professor at Faculty of Civil Engineering from Transilvania University of Brașov, where he is Vice Dean for Research. He received PhD in civil engineering from Politehnica University of Timișoara, having as cotutors prof. Radu Băncilă and prof. Aleksandar Sedmak from University of Belgrade. Since 2003 he holds courses at faculty of Civil Engineering from Brașov in different fields but mostly in static and stability of the structures, theory of elasticity and plasticity, steel structures and building information modelling. He is a specialist in structural integrity and has many contributions in research directions dealing with structural assessment, neural networks applied in civil engineering, new materials for sustainable constructions and seismic design of structures. He is author of more than 80 scientific paper, from which more than 40 published in Q1 and Q2 quartile journals. He is director or member for several research projects which are dealing with structures assessment, materials behaviour and sustainability. He participated to a large number of conferences as a keynote speaker, where he presented his research, the results being chosen to be published in renowned scientific journals. He is member of European Structural Integrity Society and has been invited to held lectures at several Universities from Romania, Serbia and Croatia. He is also member in national technical committees for normative and standards. He is organizer, editor and reviewer for international conferences and reputed international journals.

内容简介:

Considering the current requirements regarding sustainability and the need to reduce the carbon footprint, it is essential to deepen our understanding of how steel structures can be efficiently designed and maintained, while ensuring that safety standards are upheld. Analyzing the behavior under external loads, durability over time, corrosion resistance, and the capacity to prevent collapse becomes indispensable.

In the case of steel structures, the presence of defects in critical areas of structural elements can lead to failure of sub-assemblies and, in the absence of redundancy, can result in the collapse of the entire construction.

The presentation aims to provide a brief overview of the history of structural safety, followed by an analysis of the influence of defects on the behavior of steel structures under fatigue loads, illustrated through examples of failures and collapses. Methods for safety assessment of steel structures will be discussed, supported by relevant case studies.
